When I posted a poll on Instagram asking what the next article on my website should be, 100% of those who responded said "Book recommendations." So, without further adieu, these are some of the works that I have enjoyed, and learned from, thus far in 2018.
Make Your Life Cozier
The Little Book of Hygge
The author, Meik Wiking, is the CEO of The Happiness Research Institute in Denmark. In his book, he describes why Danes are so content: they live their lives in pursuit of hygge, a feeling of coziness. The book provides easy, actionable advice on how to incorporate a feeling of hygge into your daily routine, from listing recipes to make with friends and family to providing recommendations on candles and lighting to have in your home.

Spend Your Time Better
When
Daniel Pink's book demystifies timing, explaining that it is a science, rather than an art. He presents statistics and trends graphically, making them engaging, and he uses research findings to support conclusions about how to create optimal daily schedules. From When, the reader learns that there is a best time of day to schedule doctor's appointments, the midpoint of a project is a good time to regroup, and, yes, afternoon naps are beneficial.

Understand Sexism in Silicon Valley
Brotopia
I became aware of this book by listening to an interview between Kara Swisher, executive editor of Recode, and Emily Chang, the author of Brotopia. The full transcript and podcast can be found here. In her book, Chang takes a deep dive into the issues that have plagued Silicon Valley in relation to gender discrimination. It is incredibly well-researched and well-organized, and there is no unnecessary filler material. From cover to cover, the book is filled with meaningful, eye-opening content.

Learn Web Development
HTML & CSS and Javascript & jQuery
It is rare for textbooks to be as aesthetically pleasing as this pair. For those interested in learning web development--the structure, appearance, and interactivity of websites--Jon Duckett's books are a great way to build a strong foundation. The two works pair especially well with Codecademy's online courses.
